Today's Forecast.....

Chance of showers...... BABY SHOWERS! Ok, well baby shower.... no plural. I have a baby shower coming up for a friend and I really wanted to start on my baby items for my shop. What better thing to do than to take this as a practice run right? Well, several hours later (I had no existing patterns at the moment, ran out of supplies, etc) I have completed my first baby shower basket. Some of the items are store bought at a great discounted price and they all match the overall theme and color scheme of the gifts that I made. :0)

Again, I am using the camera on my old cell phone at the moment until I finally get off my butt and go buy a new battery for my digital.... so excuse the cruddy quality. :0/

The momma-to-be wanted a Giraffe theme. Everything I found was too girlie except this one. I LOVE the fabric. It is very bright and colorful. Except for some stray flower shapes here and there, it is very boy. This is a plus since her main request was no green or yellow as she didn't want her baby boy to be mistaken for a girl. I hope that the bright colors in this fabric work alright for her as they are not "baby" colors. We shall see.... anywho, here are the items.... and because T-mobile is a pain in my neck, some of the photos (the bib) didn't come through so I can't share them. :0/

Serger Fever!

It's official... I am a fabric addict.... but now I can add another addiction to my plate. SERGING! I got my new Serger yesterday and THANK THE LORD, it is pre-threaded. I picked up some crazy cute fabrics yesterday as well and decided to give a try to a skirt from scratch. I didn't have a tutorial for the exact item that I wanted, but I had bits and pieces to go off of. I needed a liner to attach my layers to, so I opted to use a shirt my little guy (big actually) as outgrown. (So, this is semi-refashioned but I'm still taking full credit!)

Anywho, here is a close up of the fabric and a photo of the skirt. I only have my old cell phone to take pictures at the moment, so bear with me and the cruddy quality. :0/

A dress for every girl....

I am joining my first contest after reading about the charity. The idea is that every little girl deserves at least one dress. I can completely go for that idea being that I was an all pink dress wearing little girl myself as a child! My goal is to complete 20 dresses by the end of the contest (Wednesday the 16th), but I plan on making many more.... for as long as the charity is doing their thing. :0)

Refashion #2

This is my second refashioned project. I used the bottom of a children's pocket shirt and refashioned it into an approx 19 inch waist toddler skirt for my best friend's little daughter, Sandra Jessie Jean. And yes, Sandra is taken after my first name, Cassandra, and Jean is my middle name too. Don't I have the best Best Friend ever!?!?!? :0) Too sweet....

Anywho, onto the skirt.... I hope she fits it and enjoys it. I just love the little colorful stars and the pocket. I made a couple rosette's as well that she can wear on the skirt or on a shirt. Sandra doesn't have much hair, but when she does, then she can wear it as a hair clip as well. :0)

Refashioned...

EEP.... I finally made my first refashioned project.... a woman's shirt into toddler skirt! The skirt is approx 20 inches in the waist which fits between 3T-4T. The original length was too short, so I added an ivory ruffle trim which came out just too cute! I also made a few rosette's out of the scraps of the shirt. One of them will be made into a removable pin for the skirt and the other two will be made into a hair clip (still in progress). I will be sending this out to my friend's adorable little daughter, Ella. :0)

This was also my first attempt at making ruffles out of strips of leftover knit fabric and it's easier said then done. My thread kept snapping even though I remembered not to close the ends of the stitch, I used a large stitch length and I tried being really gentle with it. Guess it's just something that takes practice..... or better thread? lol
